Foot & Ankle Surgery
There is an enormous number of ankle and foot conditions treated with surgery. More common conditions include surgery for bunions, hammer toes, arthritis in the foot and ankle, and damage to tendons such as the Achilles tendon or tibialis posterior tendon.
The surgery and subsequent recuperation following surgery varies enormously depending on the procedure. For example, a Morton's neuroma is a day surgery procedure where the patient is able to weight bear immediately, as opposed to a major midfoot fusion operation for arthritis where a patient may be in a below the knee plaster for a period of 12 weeks.
It is important to assess the foot and ankle condition by having a weight bearing X-ray taken. At times an MRI scan is required, particularly for soft tissue type conditions such as tendon abnormalities. A/Prof Horsley will arrange an MRI scan if required.
